Life is richer at Sts Peter and Paul!

Welcome to the official blog created by students to chronicle their experiences during Enrichment Weeks.

On these pages you’ll find personal accounts from our students discussing the wide range of activities they enjoyed both in college and off site.

Visits included residential trips to Iceland with the Geography department, France with the History department and Barcelona with the Maths department. Year 10 and 11 students will visited New York with the Business Studies teachers, while English staff and students explored creative writing skills in locations as diverse as Florida and Yorkshire, where students worked alongside a poet, a novelist and a playwright to set their imaginations on fire.

Back at College, students will take part in retreats to explore and deepen their faith. They will hear from inspirational speakers, attended careers workshops and take part in a host of music, dance and drama activities.

Our College Principal, Wendy White, said, “Enrichment Week is a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and learn outside the classroom. It is experiences like these which testify to the diverse, exciting and challenging curriculum at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic College, and how we focus on the development of the whole child.”

Daily updates from home and abroad will allow students to record and share their memorable learning experiences with family and friends.

We hope that you enjoy reading about our experiences on these pages as much as we have enjoyed putting them together.

Look out for the next instalment of the blog following Enrichment Week in July 2015….

Florida

Universal studios- Arriving at 9am, we were first greeted by a colossal view of Rip Ride Rocket, a unique roller coaster, capable of reaching speeds of up to 105km an hour. Later on in the day, we persevered through The Mummy, an indoor journey through the cursed tombs of Imohtep.

Islands of Adventure-Rushing through to Harry Potter world, we travelled through the streets of Hogsmeade, sampling the bizarre foods like Pumpkin Juice and butterbeer, individual to the theme park itself. As the day drew to a close, we finally gathered the courage to ride The Hulk, which involved a take off of 0 to 60mph in just over 3 seconds.

Seaworld- Taking advantage of the early arrival, we braved through Manta, an organ re-arranging ride, where you had the opportunity to experience how Manta Rays travel. Moreover, Erin, Caitlin and I had a close up experience with Seaworld’s dolphins, getting the chance to feed them and have a picture took beside them.  Waiting till the end of the day, we sought the courage to take on Kraken, with fearful features including 7 inversions, two vertical loops, a dive loop, one corkscrew and to finish it all off, a zero gravity roll, enough to make any roller coaster enthusiast run to the hills. Ending off the day, we took our seats in Dolphin Cove, where we encountered a spectacular array of birds, dolphins and acrobats.

Disneyland- Journeying in on the ferry to the Magic Kingdom, we received a warm welcome from Disney's own imagineers, hailing all the girls in our group as Princesses, even on the Starbucks cups. Heading down Main street, we caught sight of the iconic Disney castle, taking many photos to remember this distinctive day. Unfortunately, due to a stormy rain shower, we missed the fireworks display; in exchange we all became drenched through all layers.

We feel that the only star of the Florida show was the one and only Bucko (Mr Buckton), who received encores of chants from the group; even the Spanish schools with whom we shared the dolphin arena with.
