Life is richer at Sts Peter and Paul!

Welcome to the official blog created by students to chronicle their experiences during Enrichment Weeks.

On these pages you’ll find personal accounts from our students discussing the wide range of activities they enjoyed both in college and off site.

Visits included residential trips to Iceland with the Geography department, France with the History department and Barcelona with the Maths department. Year 10 and 11 students will visited New York with the Business Studies teachers, while English staff and students explored creative writing skills in locations as diverse as Florida and Yorkshire, where students worked alongside a poet, a novelist and a playwright to set their imaginations on fire.

Back at College, students will take part in retreats to explore and deepen their faith. They will hear from inspirational speakers, attended careers workshops and take part in a host of music, dance and drama activities.

Our College Principal, Wendy White, said, “Enrichment Week is a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and learn outside the classroom. It is experiences like these which testify to the diverse, exciting and challenging curriculum at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic College, and how we focus on the development of the whole child.”

Daily updates from home and abroad will allow students to record and share their memorable learning experiences with family and friends.

We hope that you enjoy reading about our experiences on these pages as much as we have enjoyed putting them together.

Look out for the next instalment of the blog following Enrichment Week in July 2015….

Skiing - Day 5

This morning we woke up to heavy snow storms and horrendous winds. Once we arrived on the slopes it was very hard to ski and after catching a ski lift to the top it was so cloudy we could barely see the rest of our group. After quite a few falls from Sean Glover and a lot of laughing, Holly Quinn skied over a fence and over the edge of a slope into a huge pile of snow, Sean Glover found this hugely hilarious, however when Hannah Sorvel tripped Sean Glover up (by accident) and both of his skis fell off he was not a happy bunny. After Sean lay on the side of the mountain for what felt like weeks, ski instructor Sam tried to give him a helping hand with getting his skis on. After about 10 minutes Sean was up on his feet and skiing down the mountain with the rest of the group. After this incident the wind was stronger then ever and Jake Burns complained his face was sore. The wind kept blowing Niamh Littler down the hill. Ski instructor Sam tied peoples skicks together and in pairs we had to ski down the hill Hannah Sorvel and Sam the ski instructor went first and Hannah Sorvel fell backwards down the hill. After skiing we took a trip to speed mountain (a roller coaster in the snow). When it started it was all going great until Mr Boulton got stuck in a pile of snow. It was great fun.

See you soon

Skiing - Day 3

Today, the sun shone again causing Matty Prescott to have a bright red face and the rest of us taking off layers rather than putting them on. To start the day the beginners tried to ski down the blue slope leading to Sean Glover falling flat on his face. The advanced group shown all the beginners up as per. Later on, the beginners went on a ski lift followed by Neve McMullen, Holly Quinn and Sean Glover all falling off the ski lift causing the ski lift to stop and everyone hate us. Then Neve McMullen falling in to splits going down the mountain in a lot of pain.

In the evening the activity was tough mudder, in the snow. The winning team was Neve McMullen's! Today's fall of the day was Holly Quinn and Ben Prescott :)

Skiing - Day 2

We woke up to a cloudy day that soon thawed out into beaming rays of sunshine it was so hot we were taking layers off rather than putting them on. Today we started off on a steep green run plenty of us had a close up view of the snow as our faces seemed to be spending a lot of time in the snow. With help from the brilliant instructors the beginners soon progressed and soon had the courage to move onto blue slopes. With this confidence brought speed and some really well controlled skiing from all of the groups. Soon after our skiing finished our Après ski began and tonight it was multi sports where Luke Prescott beat everyone at Table Tennis then resorted to his phone after a humiliating defeat by his cousin Matthew. Holly Quinn and Neve McMullen dominated the trampolines with their close rival Ben Prescott. After a good hour at the sports centre we worked up an appetite and devoured some take away pizzas.

Skiing - Day 1

After a really early start (5.00 am) we had a really bumpy flight but arrived safely in Lyon. As soon as we started to climb into the mountains the snow started to fall to add to the massive amount of snow that was already there, it was amazing. Our hotel is really nice the rooms are really comfortable, warm and with lots of space. We have had a real laugh messing about in the snow round our hotel Jake and Sean spent half the time up to their necks in snow. Our first two days skiing have been amazing it was really hard at first but once we got used to it we were doing loads of slopes, lifts and some great falls. Every night we vote for the best fall of the day and the next day the winners have to wear a 'high vis vest' all day skiing. So far the winners have been Jake Burns, Declan Rice, Sam Doyle and Brandon O'Neill.
